Taffy Geisel
Teacher
Employed Since: 9/4/2018
0 Years Experience At School

The theater bug bit Taffy Geisel in kindergarten, when she was cast as Tigerlily, The Mean Ugly Stepflower in “Cinderella in Flowerland.” Her orange crepe paper flower costume was a great delight to her budding artistic soul. She still remembers the song for Tigerlily’s entrance, and will happily sing it for you upon request.

Taffy earned her B.A and M.S. degrees from Baylor University.

She taught theater and speech in public schools for six years, and discovered that her rhombus shaped imagination did not fit into the public schools’ square holes. Wanting to be a star, she got an agent, and worked as a voice-over artist. To pay the bills while waiting for stardom to arrive, she worked as a proofreader for a printing company. Odds are, if you read any of the words on a Frito-Lay product in the mid 1980s, she proofread the copy before it was printed on the bag.

During this time, an actress friend started telling her about Jesus. With great joy, Taffy gave her heart to Him. Soon after Jesus became her Lord, she fell in love with Howard, who wooed her away from the false promises of stardom, and into the joys of home and family. Joey and Caroline arrived. Homeschooling started.

Joey fell in love with theater at age 8. The entire family became involved in the Creative Arts Theater and School in Arlington. Taffy began directing plays there, and teaching acting. She also began directing for Artisan in Hurst, Plaza in Cleburne, and Theater Arlington.

She has directed multiple shows, and has written plays that have been produced by area theaters. A few of the titles she has directed: ANNIE, SINGIN’ IN THE RAIN; THE LION, THE WITCH, AND THE WARDROBE; THE BEST CHRISTMAS PAGEANT EVER; CHEAPER BY THE DOZEN; THE HAPPIEST MILLIONAIRE; and THE SMOKE ON THE MOUNTAIN trilogy.

Both written and directed include: ANNE OF GREEN GABLES; THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA: PRINCE CASPIAN; A WRINKLE IN TIME; YANKEE DOODLE DANDIES; and THE CHRISTMAS CAROL MIRACLE.

She was also named Best Actress by the Star Telegram’ People’s Choice Award in 2002 for her performance at CATS as Miss Hannigan in ANNIE.

Taffy loves directing. And teaching. And teenagers. She is immensely blessed that she actually gets paid to do what she loves to do best.
